Inverness … fresh to salty

Inverness (Seaport Marina) to Inverness (Inverness Marina) – 2.4 miles in 1 hr 10 mins.

Back on board and just a quick trip today – from the fresh water of the Caledonian Canal to the salt water of Inverness Marina on the River Ness. We locked out through Clachnacharry Works Lock, then  the sea lock and then round the corner just into the mouth of the River Ness and Inverness Marina.

In the morning, while we were waiting for the tide to be suitable to leave the canal, we played at being grockles and went to the Loch Ness experience in Drumnadrochit. In fact, it was far better than we expected and gave some interesting background on the formation of the Great Glen and Loch Ness. I was looking for a souvenir of Loch Ness, but when I chose a small furry Nessie, I noticed that Anne and Alex disowned me very quickly! Nessie now lives by the chart plotter – a long way from home.

We then went on to Urquhart Castle and had a look round from the shore – a nice contrast from having sailed past it a couple of weeks ago.
