Charmary-Brighton
Charmary in Brighton 2011

Charmary was purchased by Andy Beharrell in July 2010. Prior to that she was owned by Charles and Rosemary Lindsay – the original puchasers. Charles and Rosemary (hence the name ‘Charmary‘) purchased her in November 1990 and kept her right through to 2010. During their ownership, they improved and upgraded her in various ways. They added a cockpit cover, electric windlass, a full range of racing and cruising sails, Raymarine instruments and a chart plotter, electric winches and a fuel cell among other things. She had new standing rigging in 2005.

In 2011/12 she had further work done including:

  • New sprayhood and mainsail cover
  • New aft heads
  • New VHF DSC radio
  • Holding tank
  • New mainsail track and mainsheet system
  • New anchor chain
  • New running rigging
  • New liferaft

The winter of 2014/15 sees her being re-rigged, coppercoated, the teak in the cockpit being replaced with Dek-King and a new Beta 38 engine fitted. The old Mermaid decided that 25 years was enough and spluttered its last. Maintenance never stops!
